WPA 2008 Combo: Conference, Workshop, and Institute (Multilingual Students and Writing Programs)
Includes the conference, the workshop (July 6-9) and the Institute: Multilingual Students in Writing Programs (July 10)
Workshop Description
Join new, prospective, and continuing administrators of all varieties of writing
programs—including FYC, writing centers, WAC, ESL, and basic writing—in 3 ½ days
of workshopping and conversation addressing the theoretical, curricular, and
political demands of our work. Led by Chris Anson and Susan K. Miller-Cochran.
This 2008 WPA Institute will help participants explore a wide range of administrative options for integrating multilingual writers into writing programs, including providing faculty development workshops or exchanges, offering tutoring or adjunct workshops in conjunction with writing courses, and having integrated cross-cultural sections of first-year writing, among other strategies. Participants will critically examine various options for their administrative, pedagogical, and ethical implications, brainstorm additional options, and design an action plan for one or more changes they will implement in their own programs. Led by Gail Shuck and Vivian Zamel.
Conference Description
WPA President and Program Chair Joe Janangelo has focused
this year’s theme on WPAs as learners, as teachers, and as learned contributors
to students’ lives, to knowledge, and to higher education. In addition to
invigorating concurrent sessions, meals, and breaks, the program features three
keynote speakers:
- Andrea Lunsford
