The University Writing Program at the University of Notre Dame announces a one-year post-doctoral fellowship in rhetoric and composition, renewable for one additional year. Applicants should have PhD in hand by fall 2006. Responsibilities entail teaching a three/three load of First-Year Composition, mentoring new teachers of writing, and serving on the Program’s curriculum committee. Experience in portfolio assessment preferred. Notre Dame is committed to low student/faculty ratios. Salary is $30,000 and is pending. Assistant Professor in Writing

The Department of Writing and Speech at the University of Central Arkansas announces the availability of two tenure-track positions beginning in the fall of 2006. Successful candidates should have the capacity to teach, research, advise, and provide leadership. Our primary need is for specialists in composition theory and pedagogy. College teaching preferred. Successful candidates would also ideally have a second area of emphasis in one of the following areas: rhetoric, writing center administration, linguistics, writing across-the-curriculum, creative writing or technical writing.

Roundtable Discussants Needed - WPA 2006

Are FYC courses your school taught primarily by faculty (“regular” and/or temporary)? If so, I ask you to consider participating in a roundtable discussion I’m proposing for WPA 2006.

WPA scholarship tends to ignore, I believe, those of us in institutions where FYC courses are staffed primarily, if not exclusively, by faculty. I’m interested in widening our profession’s conception of WPA work and identity by looking at the locations in which we work and the roles place, location, and culture play in our work. If your FYC courses are staffed primarily by a relatively stable cadre of faculty on some kind of continuing appointment and would like to participate in this roundtable discussion, please email me at sduffey@georgiasouthern.edu. Include a brief description of your staff, the kind of institution you work at, and perhaps a question or two you think your position raises about WPA theory, practice, or scholarship. I’ll put together a group whose “locations” might be expected to bring up a diversity of issues.

Assistant Professor of Composition

Seton Hill University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Composition, beginning Fall, 2006. The faculty member will teach developmental composition courses to traditional age and non-traditional aged students and may be asked to assist with faculty development activities in conjunction with the Writing Coordinator.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric and have tangible experience working with developmental writers. An outstanding candidate who has completed all but the dissertation may be considered.
