Affiliate Professor of Writing at Grand Valley State University
The Department of Writing at Grand Valley State University seeks to fill 4 full-time Affiliate Professor positions, beginning in August 2009. These positions are not tenure-track, but they are renewable, subject to performance evaluations and other conditions of employment. The ideal candidates will wish to focus their careers on teaching general education writing courses and on continuously developing their professional expertise as writing teachers. An M.A., M.S. or M.F.A. in English, Rhetoric/Composition, or Writing is required by time of employment, and candidates need to have expertise and experience in teaching basic and regular academic writing at the college level. Graduate coursework in rhetoric and composition, or its professional equivalent, will be given strong preference. Experience teaching writing in the disciplines at the college level is also preferred. The typical teaching load is 3 and sometimes 4 courses per semester, drawn from WRT 098, WRT 150 and WRT 305, GVSU's general education composition classes.
