Columbia’s Undergraduate Writing Program is a four-year-old program responsible for offering the university's required first-year writing course and for operating the university's writing center. We seek to hire an associate director interested in working with a small team of writing program administrators (the director and one other associate director) to expand and administer this program.

This associate director's primary responsibility will be to direct and develop our nascent writing center. Additional duties will include teaching the university's required first-year writing course, participating in the selection and training of graduate-student instructors, and contributing to the general administration of the UWP. Experience with curriculum development, non-native speakers/writers of English, writing-in-the-disciplines, or writing and technology is also desirable.


Visiting Assistant Professor In Business and Technical Writing

Visiting Assistant Professor in Business and Technical Writing. August 28, 2006-May 13, 2007. Ph.D. required. Evidence of successful teaching in business and technical writing required. Teaching load of 3/3 includes courses in basic business writing, technical writing, graduate courses in report writing and Writing for MBAs, as well as freshman composition. Salary is $40,000. Associate Director of Writing Program/Postdoctoral Fellowship, University of Kentucky

The Department of English at the University of Kentucky has been authorized to fill a postdoctoral position for its Writing Program. This appointment, to begin 1 August 2006, is a two-year, non-renewable position with three-fold responsibilities: research, teaching, and Writing Program administration. A competitive salary includes benefits and travel funds. Applicants should be recent Ph.D.s in composition, creative writing, linguistics, literature, or film; experience in TA supervision and/or writing program administration is desirable. The Associate Director has a 1-1 teaching load and works closely with a faculty mentor on his or her own research or creative project while helping to supervise teaching assistants and part-time instructors and to develop mentor programs and in-service workshops. The University Writing Program at the University of Notre Dame announces a one-year post-doctoral fellowship in rhetoric and composition, renewable for one additional year. Applicants should have PhD in hand by fall 2006. Responsibilities entail teaching a three/three load of First-Year Composition, mentoring new teachers of writing, and serving on the Program’s curriculum committee. The Department of Writing and Speech at the University of Central Arkansas announces the availability of two tenure-track positions beginning in the fall of 2006. Successful candidates should have the capacity to teach, research, advise, and provide leadership. Our primary need is for specialists in composition theory and pedagogy. College teaching preferred. Successful candidates would also ideally have a second area of emphasis in one of the following areas: rhetoric, writing center administration, linguistics, writing across-the-curriculum, creative writing or technical writing.

Seton Hill University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Composition, beginning Fall, 2006. The faculty member will teach developmental composition courses to traditional age and non-traditional aged students and may be asked to assist with faculty development activities in conjunction with the Writing Coordinator.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Composition and Rhetoric and have tangible experience working with developmental writers. An outstanding candidate who has completed all but the dissertation may be considered.

First-Year Writing Faculty, St. John's University

Full-time Writing Faculty to teach first-year composition.

St. John's University invites applications for contract faculty positions on our campuses in Queens and Staten Island, New York to begin late August 2006. These are full-time, non-tenure-track positions, renewable annually up to six times for a total of seven years. Faculty receive the same medical and dental benefits as tenure-track faculty. Salaries are contingent upon teaching experience and degrees, but will generally be in the low-50k range for candidates with doctorates, and in the mid-40k range for candidates without.
