The Department of English in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenured Associate or Full Professor to direct the innovative undergraduate communication curriculum, ISUComm Foundation Courses, which integrate writing and critical thinking with oral, visual, and digital literacies. This position includes teaching, research, and service in a multidisciplinary English Department dedicated to the university’s land-grant mission of providing access to a practical and liberal arts education for all students. The proposed start date is July 1, 2019.
The ISUComm Foundation Courses director is responsible for visionary leadership and innovation in the ISUComm Foundation program in addition to its management. Duties include designing and evaluating curriculum and materials for teaching; educating and supervising program staff in pedagogical theory and practice through graduate courses and professional-development seminars and workshops; overseeing and evaluating instructional staff, who are drawn from English Department faculty and graduate teaching assistants; collaborating with faculty across colleges to develop learning-community-linked course sections; and representing the ISUComm Foundation program to other university leaders and innovators.
