CALL for WPA Journal Editorial Team

The Council of Writing Program Administrators is seeking the next Editor or Editorial Team for its official journal, WPA: Writing Program Administration.

Our current editorial team, led by our dedicated Managing Editors Deirdre Pettipiece and Timothy Ray, has delivered distinguished content that reflects our field's continued growth in research and scholarship, but they are ready to move on to other work in the field.

The WPA is now issuing its regular call for applications for the position of WPA Journal Editor or Editorial Team. The term is for three years, with possibility for renewal, with work beginning in Spring 2009; the new editorial team will work with the current editorial team to publish content already in development for Volume 32, and will have full responsibility for content and production beginning with Volume 33 (Fall/Winter 2009 and Spring 2010).

Interested applicants should have the following qualifications: prior editorial experience, preferably working on a scholarly journal; publications in and familiarity with the field of writing program administration and related areas; familiarity with the journal, an understanding of the role the journal plays in the field, and a vision for journal's future; current membership in the WPA; and strong editorial skills. We especially encourage applications from prospective editorial teams. A fact sheet about the journal is available as a downloadable attachment to this page (you must be logged in as a registered site user to view the attachment) and additional information about the journal is available at

To apply, please submit an application letter explaining why you are qualified for this position and describing any resources or support your institution(s) will be able to provide (released time, secretarial support, startup funds, etc.) as well as resources you will request from WPA. Applicants should also submit a current c.v. for each member of the prospective Editorial Team. If you are proposing an editorial team, please explain how you will work together on editing and production of the journal. Upon request, additional information about editorial responsibilities and workflow, journal finances, and production timelines will be made available to prospective editors. Address queries to Shirley Rose, Chair of the CWPA Publications Committee,

Send the application electronically as attached files to: Shirley Rose, WPA Journal Editor Search Committee Chair, Deadline: December 15. Members of the Search Committee will be available for phone consultations with prospective editors/editorial teams. We hope to finalize an agreement with the new Editorial Team no later than January 30, 2009.
