Director of Mentor Programs Portland State University
The general education program (University Studies: www.pdx.edu/unst) at Portland State University seeks a Director of Mentor Programs. The Mentor Director reports to the Director of University Studies.
Specific job duties include:
• Responsible for recruitment, training and support of undergraduate and graduate mentors including coordinating training with units across campus. • Provide direction and instruction to mentors in writing. • Coordinate ongoing training and support for mentors. • Provide support, training, and guidance to University Studies faculty with regard to their work with graduate and undergraduate mentors. • Lead change and program improvement by using quantitative data-driven assessment. • Work closely with administrative and faculty leadership of University Studies to ensure close coordination of mentor program with all University Studies program activities. This includes participation on appropriate faculty and administrative committees. • Work with faculty and staff to ensure that the mentor program contributes to the learning of students and mentors. • Work with faculty and staff to ensure that the mentor program contribute to student graduation, persistence and retention. • Regularly teach in University Studies Programs. Schedule to be determined by the Director. • Conduct and coordinate evaluations of mentor programs. Prepare written reports for faculty, staff, UNST Council, and PSU’s assessment website. • Meet regularly with the Director to review the Mentor Programs. • Regularly review responsibilities with the Director as these are affected by program changes. Assume new or different duties as directed by the Director. • Develop and keep current written descriptions and training materials for mentors. • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree required. Ph.D. or appropriate terminal degree preferred. Two years teaching experience at the post-secondary level required; experience teaching in freshman seminars or a first-year program; knowledge of and experience with mediation and conflict resolution strategies; knowledge of student centered curricula and pedagogy; experience and interest in writing across the curriculum; previous experience with undergraduate mentor development and knowledge appropriate theories desired; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment; quantitative skills to support data-driven program assessment and improvement.
Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
The starting annual salary rate for this position will be $60,000 dependent upon qualifications and experience.
