Drexel University is seeking an Assistant Professor of English to serve as the Director of the Freshman Writing Program, housed in the Department of English and Philosophy (www.drexel.edu/coas.engphil). This full-time, tenure-track appointment begins in July 2006.
Duties of the Director of the Freshman Writing Program would include setting the goals and objectives of Drexelâ€™s first-year writing program, designing and developing the programâ€™s curriculum, administering the delivery of freshman writing courses (between 90 and 120 sections each term), supervising and coordinating faculty teaching in the program, and representing the Program within the university and in writing program administration organizations. The candidate will have an opportunity to be an active voice in the planning and development of Drexel writing initiatives.
Qualified candidates should have the following qualifications:
â€¢ A PhD in composition/a composition-related area and/or direct experience in writing program administration
â€¢ Significant knowledge of composition pedagogy
â€¢ A research/scholarship agenda that will provide strong evidence of innovative scholarly activity that could lead to tenure
â€¢ Competency with digital learning technologies
â€¢ An understanding of writing assessment
â€¢ Superior organization and managerial skills
