The University of Minnesota has opened a search for an Assistant Director of Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC). This position involves serving as a key member of the University’s innovative Writing-Enriched Curriculum (WEC) team and leading in interdisciplinary WAC programming (workshops, discussions, materials development, teaching consultations). The mission of the Center for Writing in the Department of Writing Studies is to enhance student learning, to improve writing instruction, and to deepen our understanding of literacy and the writing process. Through individual consultations, workshops, and research grants, the Center for Writing supports the work of all University of Minnesota students, faculty, and staff engaged in the practice, teaching, and study of writing. The mission of the Writing-Enriched Curriculum project is to meaningfully integrate effective writing instruction into the University of Minnesota's undergraduate curricula and to equip instructors to conduct meaningful, ongoing assessment of student writing. The project's long-term goal is to ensure that all undergraduate degrees awarded by this university will be "writing-enriched." Minimum Qualifications include: advanced degree in Composition, Rhetoric, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field; minimum of two years of full time WAC administrative experience in a post-secondary institution's WAC program; minimum five years experience as instructor of record in undergraduate courses; documented success and a minimum two years experience in facilitating interactive workshops and consultations focused on the effective integration of writing and writing instruction across and within undergraduate disciplines; documented success with interpersonal communication and as an instructional consultant and group facilitator.
Preference will be given to candidates with more than two years of experience in a post-secondary institution's WAC program; documented success and a minimum two years experience in offering interactive workshops and consultations focused on effectively integrating writing and writing instruction across and within undergraduate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines; experience consulting on issues related to curriculum development; experience with writing and programmatic assessment; documented experience with the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative educational data.
