Advertisement for Two Journalism Positions: Departments of English and Communication Studies
Join a vibrant campus community whose excellence is reflected in its diversity and student success. West Chester University of Pennsylvania is seeking candidates for two tenure-track assistant professor positions in digital journalism to begin teaching in the Fall of 2015.
Successful candidates for these positions must (1) demonstrate an ability and desire to develop/teach undergraduate courses in one of the department-specific areas of specialization listed below; (2) demonstrate evidence of a scholarly agenda related to the department-specific areas of specialization listed below; and (3) hold a Ph.D. in the field of journalism, mass communication or related fields (Master’s degree plus extensive professional experience considered). Other desirable characteristics include professional experience in journalism.
The journalism program is shared by the Department of English and the Department of Communication Studies at WCU. Candidates will teach two courses in the journalism program and two courses in their home departments. Finalists for both positions must successfully complete an on-campus interview, which includes teaching and research demonstrations.
- Department of English position – In addition to two courses in the journalism core, applicants will also teach two other courses from the English writing curriculum, including first-year composition. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to teach two courses in emerging journalism technologies and news story forms and design, with an emphasis on mobile technologies, web page design, and app development.
- Department of Communication Studies position – In addition to two courses in the journalism core, the successful candidate will teach two courses from the Communication Studies curriculum. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to teach Mass Communication and Digital Media Production as well as at least one of the following courses: Communication Theory, Social Media, Video Production, Public Relations or Advertising. Candidates with professional experience focusing on new and emerging media are especially encouraged to apply.
