The College of the Holy Cross is establishing a new Center for Writing and seeks a Director. The Director will develop and implement initiatives to support college-wide writing instruction and will provide imaginative leadership in planning future directions for the Center, including efforts to enhance oral and visual communication across the curriculum. The Director will collaborate with the Center for Teaching, Montserrat (the College’s living/learning program for first-year students) and other academic programs to design a range of faculty development opportunities, resources and student workshops in support of these goals. S/he will also collaborate with the Office of Academic Services and Learning Resources with regard to various programs for students, including Passport, the College’s three-week summer bridge program.
In addition to cross-curricular program development and implementation, the Director will design and teach two writing-intensive electives per year (the College has no required first-year writing program or other formal writing requirement). The Director will also collaborate with the Office of Assessment and Research on assessment of student writing.
The Center will be staffed by an Associate Director and a professional ESL tutor. The Associate Director will assist the Director and supervise the recruitment and training of the undergraduate tutors for the College’s peer-tutoring facility, called “The Writer’s Workshop.”
