Job Description:

The University at Albany, SUNY, is seeking five full-time lecturers for the Program in Writing and Critical Inquiry to begin August 2015.

Responsibilities include a standard teaching load (typically, three courses per semester) and duties related to participation in the development of the first-year writing program, as assigned by the program director. Lecturers teach the Seminar in Writing and Critical Inquiry (WCI), a required general education course designed to introduce students to college-level critical inquiry with an emphasis on the intensive practice of writing in academic and other contexts. WCI courses are capped at 19 students per section. Lecturers join a vibrant community of active teacher-scholars who participate in various components of the WCI program, including a Peer Writing Mentor Program, a writing contest, program assessment, and related activities.

 

Requirements:

Minimum:

  • Ph.D. or MFA from a university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting agency (ABD or M.A. will be considered with appropriate teaching experience.)
  • Experience teaching college-level writing
  • Interest in writing program development, evaluation, and assessment
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse student body and growing international student population

 

Preferred:

  • Experience teaching in first-year writing programs
  • Experience and interest in writing-related research
  • Training in and experience with second-language writing instruction and/or TESOL a plus

Additional Information:

Professional Rank and Salary Range: Lecturer, $38,000 - 42,000

Date to be filled: August 2015

Special note: This is a three-year renewable 10-month appointment.
