The Writing Program at UC Santa Barbara invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, with a specialization in Digital and Multimodal Writing, beginning July 1, 2016. Requirements are a terminal degree in Writing Studies, Rhetoric, Composition, or a related field; demonstrated research and teaching excellence in digital and multimodal writing; experience teaching writing to undergraduates. Particularly desirable secondary areas of emphasis include scientific communication, professional writing, and writing program administration. In addition to maintaining an active research agenda, the person hired will teach 4 courses per year on the quarter system. We seek a colleague who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching, and service, as well as student advising.

The UCSB Writing Program, a CCCC Certificate of Excellence winner, has been an independent writing program for the past 25 years. We have a vertically integrated curriculum that includes first-year composition and a range of disciplinary, interdisciplinary, and professional writing courses at the upper-division level. Our highly successful Professional Writing Minor just celebrated its 20th year. We also offer graduate courses and a Ph.D. emphasis in Writing Studies that draws graduate students from a range of disciplines.
