Drexel University seeks a Department Head to lead the Department of English and Philosophy, starting in September 2016. The Department is comprised of undergraduate programs in Literature, Writing, and Philosophy as well as a Master’s program in Publishing. The Department of English and Philosophy is also responsible for the teaching of writing across the curriculum and for the operation of the University’s Writing Center. Located within Drexel’s College of Arts and Sciences, the Department of English and Philosophy is strongly committed to experiential learning and engagement with the wider community.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in English or a related field and either hold the rank of Full Professor or be ready to achieve that rank. This position continues Drexel’s recent investment in the humanities and social sciences and the University’s goal of creating a strong research and educational identity for these areas. The Department Head will be essential in charting the future of the Department of English and Philosophy and should demonstrate innovative scholarship as well as a strong record of leadership in areas such as the creation of new programs, managing the needs of faculty, and overseeing curricular improvements.
