Assistant Professor and Writing Program Administrator, DePaul University
The Department of Writing, Rhetoric, & Discourse (WRD) at DePaul University invites applications for a tenure-line position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin September 2017. We seek candidates with a dedicated commitment to writing program administration and composition pedagogy. Preference will be given to candidates with doctoral preparation and an active research agenda in writing program administration. Experience as a WPA is also highly desirable. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in an independent writing department and, beginning in their second year, direct the first-year composition program. Tenure-line faculty teach 2-2-2 in the quarter system. The WPA in WRD teaches 1-1-1.
The department and the university sustain a strong commitment to undergraduate education and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural student population. We particularly seek candidates who mirror the diversity of the university and its surrounding urban community, and we specifically solicit applications from women, people of color, and individuals from other historically underrepresented groups. DePaul University is committed to diversity and equality in education and employment.
Applicants must have the PhD in rhetoric and composition or an appropriately related field in hand by July 1, 2017. Please submit online a cover letter, CV, writing sample, and complete contact information for three recommenders. Review of applications will begin October 10; applications will not be accepted after November 1. Applicants receiving further consideration will be asked to provide a statement that describes their teaching and administrative philosophies. Questions may be directed to Peter Vandenberg, Department Chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications must be submitted online at https://facultyopportunities.depaul.edu/postings/996.
