Assistant or Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Composition
The University Writing Program at the University of California, Davis invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in Rhetoric and Composition: Entry-Level Writing. We are seeking teachers/scholars with ongoing research in basic writing, writing assessment, and/or writing program administration (WPA). Interest in and potential to administer an entry-level writing program is required. Knowledge of first-year composition programs and multilingual writers (ESL) is beneficial. The successful candidate may teach basic writing, first-year composition, ESL writing, upper-level undergraduate writing courses, and/or graduate courses in the theory and pedagogy. The appointee is expected to have a strong research plan and teaching record. Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition or related field must be in hand prior to the first day of classes, September 19, 2017. The appointment will be at the assistant or associate professor level.
The successful candidate will join an independent writing program at a top-flight research university with an established emphasis on writing in the disciplines and professions, as well as a diverse student population. The university’s commitment to writing in the disciplines, as represented by the University Writing Program, has been recognized as “stellar” by US News and World Report in its Best Colleges annual. The University Writing Program (UWP) publishes the journal Writing on the Edge. Located in Northern California’s Central Valley, adjacent to Sacramento and within easy driving distance of the Bay Area and the Sierra, UC Davis offers a superb, diverse environment for teaching and research.
