Lecturer, Interdisciplinary Writing Program

Lecturer, English Department, Interdisciplinary Writing Program

The Department of English at the University of Washington invites applications for the position of Lecturer in the Interdisciplinary Writing Program (IWP). PhD, or foreign equivalent, in writing studies, composition, or related field required. Applicants must have a record of success teaching writing or using writing as a way of teaching in a discipline at the college level. The IWP offers writing seminars linked with lecture courses in disciplines such as Psychology, Philosophy, Comparative Literature, Biology, History, Communications, Chemistry, and International Studies. Job responsibilities include curriculum development, collaboration with discipline faculty, mentorship of graduate student instructors teaching IWP courses, and service on departmental committees.

We are especially interested in applicants whose work and teaching engage anti-racist pedagogies, and who would contribute to training instructors to teach in ways that take up race and racism and other exclusionary practices and ideologies (such as legacies of colonialism) as analytic categories. We expect applicants to demonstrate a commitment to diversity and access for historically underrepresented groups in their teaching, research, and service. We particularly encourage applications from candidates interested in collaborating on teaching support for graduate instructors and program building; experience working with multilingual students’ writing, both that of international students and of domestic speakers of heritage languages other than English, is also welcomed.

Please submit letter of application, CV, dissertation abstract, teaching portfolio, three letters of recommendation, student evaluations and writing sample via Interfolio (apply.interfolio.com/36583).

This is a full-time, 9-month, 3-year renewable position.

This position has an anticipated start date of September 16, 2017. Priority will be given to applications received by November 1, 2016.
