Assistant Professor of English in Professional Writing, High Point University

High Point University’s Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in English with emphasis in Professional Writing, PhD in English or related field required. As a comprehensive university with a liberal arts mission, we especially seek applicants who can demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research with undergraduates. The successful candidate will have teaching experience in professional and/or technical writing with an active research agenda and demonstrated potential for scholarly publication. Desired areas of interest include but are not limited to: technical documentation, print and digital publishing, user experience design, and writing for public audiences. Candidates who are committed to interdisciplinary teaching and research and have relevant teaching experience working with high achieving students, First Year Seminar programs, or collaborative or project-based approaches are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop courses for a newly created minor in Public and Professional Writing, with faculty and administrative support for a major. The HPU English Department comprises a collegial group of tenure-track faculty representing Composition/Rhetoric, Creative Writing, and Literature who regularly teach general education courses as well as courses in their area of specialization. All High Point University faculty teach a 3/3 load and enjoy significant professional development funding as well as opportunities to make a significant impact on the institution’s academic life.
