Visiting Faculty Position at Grand Valley State University

The Department of Writing at Grand Valley State University seeks to fill a full-time (9-month) Visitor Faculty position beginning in August 2017. The ideal candidates will focus their careers on teaching general education writing courses and on continuously developing their professional expertise as writing instructors. An MA, MS, MFA, or PhD in Rhetoric/Composition, English, Writing or closely related field is required by time of employment, and graduate coursework in rhetoric and composition will be given strong preference. Candidates need to have expertise and experience in teaching college composition, preferably in both traditional classrooms and computer labs. 

Grand Valley State University offers a unique curricular structure for first-year writing that centers on collaborative portfolio grading and working with imbedded writing center consultants; successful candidates will demonstrate interest in and/or experience with these pedagogical strategies. The typical teaching load is 12-credit hours per semester, drawn from WRT 098 and WRT 150, GVSU's general education composition classes. Please see the Writing Department website,, for details about these courses.

This is a one-year non-tenure track position with the possibility of renewal up to three years. This position is designed for candidates planning to seek permanent positions elsewhere.
