Lecturer, First-Year Writing Program - Barnard College
Barnard College invites applications for one full-time Lecturer position in the First-Year Writing (FYW) Program. FYW teaches the skills of academic writing and critical inquiry to all Barnard students and prepares them for the rigors of Barnard’s liberal arts education in all disciplines. This is a renewable faculty position with an initial contract of three years beginning in Fall 2018. Lecturers will teach a 3/3 course load in FYW and will work with the Director of FYW on program development, including activities that develop pedagogical and programmatic connections with peer institutions and help to establish Barnard as a leader in writing pedagogy. Lecturers also advise students, serve on College committees, and may be asked to assist in program administration.
Successful applicants will have a terminal degree and a background and demonstrated expertise in writing pedagogy, with outside reference letters that speak to that expertise. Successful applicants will also have demonstrated excellence in teaching writing at the college level, preferably to students from a range of educational backgrounds (including non-native speakers). A minimum of four years of experience teaching writing at the college level is required. Experience working in a writing program and/or writing center is strongly preferred. Successful applicants will contribute to the pedagogy of the program through expertise in areas such as inclusive pedagogy or writing in the sciences.
Please provide a CV, letter of interest, statement of teaching philosophy, two letters of recommendation, and evidence of teaching effectiveness to: http://careers.barnard.edu/postings/3234. Please include sample syllabi of courses taught and/or a syllabus for an academic writing course that you have developed.
All applications must be received by Saturday, February 3, 2018.
