College of Staten Island CUNY Open Rank--Writing Program Administrator The College of Staten Island CUNY invites applications for a teacher-scholar in composition and rhetoric for a position directing our Writing Program, effective August 2018. This position is at open rank (assistant, associate, or full) depending on experience. The CSI Writing Program boasts a dedicated group of full-time faculty and lecturers that serve in advisory roles, as well as adjuncts and graduate students who teach in our two-semester sequence of first-year writing courses. We offer professional development in the teaching of writing through our monthly workshop series, our Blackboard site for sharing resource materials, and our blog. Valuing the development of our adjunct community, we also host coffee hours and other events throughout the academic year. The new WPA will perform teaching, research, and guidance in area(s) of expertise and will work closely with departmental and college committees on writing curricula. The WPA hires and supervises adjuncts and graduate students teaching writing courses and assists in coordinating their professional development. The WPA, with assistance from a Writing Program Committee, leads curriculum and policy development and revision of first-year writing classes. We are also interested in the WPA developing new courses in area(s) of specialization for the English department. The department offers significant release time as the WPA teaches a 1-1 course load per academic year. The position requires a PhD in rhetoric and composition or other related area and at least four years of teaching experience. The candidate should have a background as a writing program administrator or should be able to demonstrate a significant service record in a writing program. A current record of scholarly publication and an agenda for future research should be evident. Excellent skills in communication and collaborative leadership are also important. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate scholarly specialization in the following areas: writing program administration, composition theory and pedagogy, professional/public writing, writing across the curriculum, and writing in the disciplines. The College of Staten Island is a senior, 4-year college in the CUNY system. We serve a diverse student population from all five NYC boroughs. The college has a free shuttle service to and from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal and is also accessible from Manhattan and Brooklyn via MTA express and limited stop buses.
