I’d like to thank those of you who responded to my last newsletter and sent ideas for possible summer programming in lieu of the traditional summer conference. I truly appreciate your amazing support for CWPA. You continue to prove that members are the heartbeat of this organization.
At the Executive Board meeting in November to discuss alternative programming, EB members had come up with various models for that programming. We formed an ad-hoc committee that is discussing the most viable options and will present those options to the EB at our December meeting next week. I hope to have concrete ideas and details to share with you in the new year. Meanwhile, please continue to share your suggestions; I forward those to the committee to include in their discussions and to have a sense of what our members do need.
We received an application for CWPA Secretary that the EB will discuss and vote on soon. However, we haven’t been as fortunate with the Treasurer or the Communications Coordinator roles.
I’d like to point out that individuals appointed to these roles will serve as Ex-officios on the Executive Board. Unlike other CWPA leadership roles, these two positions are compensated:
Treasurer
CWPA provides economy class travel to both CCCC and CWPA conferences. In addition, for CCCC, one night’s lodging and two days’ meals at established government per diem rates will be covered; for CWPA, all lodging, registration costs, and meals will be covered.
Communications Coordinator
The Communication Coordinator will receive a $500 stipend/year.
It’s worth noting that in the absence of a summer conference, the Treasurer’s responsibilities are not as demanding.
Please consider applying for one of those positions and share with colleagues who may be interested.

On November 17 EB member Erin Lehman facilitated a great workshop on “Resources and Strategies for Writing Program Leaders with Online Programs and Courses.” The workshop was led by the PARS series co-editors Jessie Borgman and Casey McArdle along with a number of the contributors to their latest book PARS in Charge: Resources and Strategies for Online Writing Program Leaders.
This week, Susan Miller-Cochran and Cheri Lemieux Spiegel will start their two-part workshop series on Mindful Leadership. Their workshop title is “Mindful Leadership for Writing Program Administrators: Recognizing Values and Setting Intentions” is scheduled for Friday Dec 8 at 4:00 – 5:30 EST. You can register for the workshop at Register Now.
And as you’re registering for this week workshop, check out Upcoming Events we have for you. We are grateful to all these wonderful WPAs for their willingness to share their experiences with the larger WPA community.
These events are open for both members and non-members, so please share them with colleagues who may be interested, and of course encourage them to become members to save 50% in registration for all workshops.
I’m currently planning other events on relevant topics of interest to WPAs. Please send your suggestions of topics and/or speakers to me at (councilofwpa@gmail.com).
As always, your feedback and input on all our work, operations, programming is welcome and appreciated.
Sincerely,
Lilian Mina
