Whether you are getting ready to teach summer courses, traveling, packing to move to a new institution, working on a research/writing project, developing a program initiative, or taking a well-deserved break from your responsibilities, I hope you are enjoying your summer.
As you will see in this newsletter, we are busy this summer:
Voting in the CWPA 2024 elections started last week and will continue through Monday 6/10. The ballot has candidates for CWPA President, Vice President, and Four seats on the Executive Board. Voting is a great opportunity for members to help shape the future direction of the organization.
Members can learn more about all candidates and cast their vote through this link. You will need to log into the website with your CWPA membership credentials.
We are so excited the Summer Workshop is back in person at the University of Central Florida. Joanne Giordano and David Green are finishing up all preparations for an exciting and incredibly informative workshop, so grab your seat now before registration closes on June 17th.
While the workshop has been traditionally designed for new colleagues taking up on writing program administration work, the recent changes in writing studies, writing program realities and challenges, cultural, social, and legislative circumstances make the workshop a site for learning how to deal with all these changes for experienced WPAs.
Applications are due to CWPA officers (councilofwpa@gmail.com, cwpasecretary@gmail.com, cwpatreasurer@gmail.com) by 5:00 EDT this Thursday June 6th.
There is still time to support CWPA by sponsoring the workshop and/or advertising your graduate program at one of our events this summer. This letter outlines all sponsorship opportunities. If interested, contact Christal Seahorn, CWPA Treasurer (cwpatreasurer@gmail.com).
Speaking of summer events, there are six regional one-day events happening across the country in June and July. These events are a wonderful opportunity to connect with other WPAs from your area to discuss shared topics of interest and to build your network of local WPAs
June 11: Two-Year College Writing Placement (registration closes this Friday)
June 18: Valuing Linguistic Diversity and Advancing Social Justice in Writing Programs
June 28: Artificial Intelligence and Linguistic Diversity in Writing Programs (can be a great addition to the summer workshop itinerary)
July 13: Rhetorical Literacies for Reimagined Futures
July 17: WPAing through Risk & Failure
July 28: WISCO Affiliate Summer Event (a new CWPA Affiliate Launch)
We welcome all your feedback, suggestions, and questions, so reach out and share your thoughts any time.
Have a lovely summer.
