POSITION DESCRIPTION: The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) Department of English seeks applications for two Assistant Professor of English in English Education positions, beginning August 2019. The English Education program serves preservice and practicing secondary English teachers through an undergraduate major and an MAT program that includes Dual Credit preparation. The Department of English also houses programs in Literature and Rhetoric and Writing Studies. English Education faculty work with faculty in these other programs in teacher preparation. Our faculty have ambitious research agendas and publication records. We will be hiring in each of the following two areas:
1) Teaching in the Borderlands/Cultural Studies, Social Justice and K-16 Literacy
This position broadly calls for expertise in working with our area’s majority Latinx student population and the impact of linguistically, racially, and economically diverse student populations on classroom teaching methods in all areas of literacy.
2) Secondary Composition/Multimodal Literacy/Literacy and Assessment
This position calls for expertise in secondary composition and assessment methods and an understanding of high school/ college composition articulation.
While applicants may have interest in both areas, applications should be clearly directed to one of the two positions.
QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in English Education or closely related field in hand is required by August 1, 2019. This position also requires a demonstrated record of teaching excellence, an active research agenda, and a strong commitment to the success of culturally and linguistically diverse students. Experience teaching middle or high school education is strongly desired.
