WRITING PROGRAM DIRECTOR

The University of Michigan-Dearborn invites applications and nominations for an Associate or Full Professor to direct its Campus Writing Program starting July 1 2006. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Writing Program and its long term strategic planning, the Director will serve as the administrative head of the program collaborating with writing faculty; overseeing peer counselors in the Writing Center; facilitating faculty development under the direction of the Humanities department, the College of Arts, Sciences, and Letters and the Office of the Provost; overseeing hiring, retention, and review of part time lecturers in the Program and connecting the WP with academic initiatives such as First Year Seminars, the Honors Program and the writing track in the English discipline. The Director will be responsible for continuing the conversations on student writing and engaged pedagogy across campus.
The Director will be expected to provide dynamic leadership for the Writing Program and to ensure its visibility and effectiveness across campus. The Director will need to prioritize resources, maintain budget oversight, facilitate faculty development projects and continue to devise innovative programs that enhance student writing in a variety of learning environments. The Director must be able to work independently, have strong organizational and planning skills, excellent writing and oral communication skills, strong analytical and research skills, and experience in computer technology and on-line teaching. Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills are necessary to interact with people of all backgrounds. Ability to use sound judgment, creativity and vision are a must. A Ph.D. or equivalent in composition studies, rhetoric, writing pedagogy or related fields and significant experience in administration are required. 3-year renewable term.
