Univ. of Baltimore - Tenure-Track Professor of Expository Writing

The School of Communications Design invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position (rank open) teaching Expository Writing to begin in fall 2010, pending budget approval. Responsibilities include the following: teaching a full-time course load of writing courses; teaching writing within disciplines such as psychology, criminal justice, business, history, or information technology; teaching in hybrid and fully online environments; assisting in developing curriculum and materials for UB's general education writing courses; collaborating with UB staff and faculty to deliver effective writing instruction; and mentoring and training part-time faculty.

Qualifications: (1) Terminal degree in a writing-related discipline, doctoral degree preferred; (2) teaching experience. The successful candidate will have a background in composition theory and practice, experience with writing across the curriculum, experience teaching business or technical writing, and significant experience teaching writing in online environments. Preference will be given to candidates who have a background in a secondary field such as creative writing, professional writing, or literature. This person should be able to work effectively as part of a team; have strong communication and interpersonal skills; have experience working with a diverse, non-traditional student population; continued scholarly productivity; and university, professional, and community service. For appointment to a senior-level position, the successful applicant must have a record of outstanding teaching and research.
