Three-Quarter Time Lecturer in Rhetoric

Hampden-Sydney College is a selective four-year liberal arts college for men enrolling approximately 1050 students located on a beautiful 660-acre campus in Virginia, 60 miles southwest of Richmond. Hampden-Sydney College invites applications for a three-quarter time Lecturer in Rhetoric, beginning August 2012. The successful candidate will teach five courses per academic year, primarily courses in beginning and advanced public speaking, but also first-year composition.
Maximum enrollment in public speaking courses is sixteen students per section, and, in first-year composition, fourteen students per section. The successful candidate will also serve as the Associate Director of the Ferguson Center for Public Speaking, tutoring three hours per week, assisting in student tutors’ training and evaluation, and developing and leading workshops for faculty across the disciplines. Expertise in speaking in the disciplines, experience teaching in a liberal arts college, and experience in the use of instructional technology in oral rhetoric preferred. M.A. or PhD in Rhetoric, Rhetorical Studies, Rhetoric and Communication, Rhetoric and Public Address, or related field preferred.
