Writing Tutor

Job Opening: Tutors, Centre for Writing and Communication - Ashoka University

Ashoka University is a new liberal arts university opening in August 2014 in the National Capital Region of Delhi in India. As an integral part of our commitment to a liberal education and the liberal arts, we are setting up a Centre for Writing and Communication to help students
improve their writing and to foster students’ critical thinking and expression. This investment in critical thinking and academic writing is the cornerstone of our intellectual endeavour.

The Centre for Writing and Communication is looking for writing tutors who will tutor students in the physical Centre on campus, and work as teaching assistants for required courses in critical thinking.

Tutors will fulfill the following roles: act as TAs and lead tutorials (20-25 students) for larger “Introduction to Critical Thinking” courses; tutor students one-on-one with their writing, including teaching strategies for advancing writing skills; help with the running of writing-intensive seminars; run small writing workshops on a number of aspects of writing; partake in the Centre’s activities for tutors.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with a BA or MA who have at least one year of experience at a university Writing Centre. Please include in your application the following (in .doc or .docx format):

- Cover letter
- CV
- Statement of tutoring philosophy
- One-page explanation of why you would like to work in India.

Deadline for receipt of completed applications is March 1, 2014. Skype interviews will begin April 1.

We are looking to fill positions for an initial period of 1 to 2 years, with the option to renew. All tutors will be provided with room and board, as well as a stipend of $600 per month. Tutors will be expected to begin in July 2014.
