Adjunct Writing Faculty
The Writing Department at Woodbury University seeks to hire a part-time adjunct faculty member to teach basic writing, freshman composition, and advanced composition classes for Spring 2015 with possible additional teaching in 2015-16 at its San Diego Campus. The average enrollment of composition classes is between 5-10, and all sections are capped at twenty. The faculty member would teach 1-2 sections per semester.
Woodbury University is a small, private, non-profit university with its main campus located in Burbank, California. The Woodbury San Diego campus occupies a renovated warehouse in San Diego’s Barrio Logan district. Sited between downtown and the naval shipyards, the campus is a center of cultural and architectural activity in a diverse neighborhood populated by families, artists, and community leaders. The school offers undergraduate and graduate programs in architecture and real estate development for architects.
POSITION: Besides teaching responsibilities, adjunct faculty members at the San Diego campus are expected to participate in occasional workshops and other activities that are paid separately. Faculty members may be asked to serve as faculty tutors for the Writing Center for additional compensation. All adjunct faculty members are expected to work closely with the Writing Department Chair and the department’s other curricular coordinators. The starting pay for adjunct faculty ranges from $2,988 to $3,235 per course, depending on qualifications.
EDUCATION: The minimum qualification for adjunct faculty members is a Master’s degree in English or Linguistics, or a discipline related to rhetoric and composition. In addition, ideal candidates will have:
- experience teaching writing, freshman composition, and/or advanced composition;
- knowledge of the field of rhetoric and composition;
- interest in professional development;
- knowledge of and/or experience in multimodal composition and pedagogies, online instruction, and/or writing curriculum development;
