2 WID/WAC/Professional Writing Positions at UNR

The University of Nevada, Reno, Department of English announces two entry-level tenure-track positions in disciplinary (WAC/WID) and professional writing. Part of a new campus-wide writing initiative focusing on the analysis, rhetoric, and production of writing in disciplines and professions, these positions will provide opportunities to work from within and at the intersections of professional communication, rhetoric, writing theory, pedagogy, and writing programs. Desirable areas of emphasis include WAC/WID theory and practice, professional communication, disciplinary rhetorics, and composition theory, practice, and programs.

The successful candidate will join an established English department that offers a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, contribute significantly to university writing programs and, after tenure, join the rotation of faculty directing the Core Writing Program (first-year writing). Tenure-track faculty who teach and mentor in the graduate program and engage in scholarly research typically teach a 2/2 load.

First interviews will be conducted at the MLA conference.

The minimum qualifications for this position include a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, English, or closely allied field required by August 1, 2015; college-level writing instruction experience; ability to teach professional writing and/or WAC/WID; and a developed and continuing research agenda in WAC/WID and/or professional writing.

Preferred qualifications for this position include teaching experience in WAC/WID and/or professional writing at multiple levels, peer-reviewed publication in WAC/WID and/or professional writing, experience developing WAC/WID courses and/or curricula, and service to English departments and university writing programs.
