Ashoka University, a new liberal arts teaching and research institution in Delhi NCR, India, is looking to award three one-semester post-doctoral/pre-doctoral teaching fellowships in academic writing.  Successful applicants will

1.  arrive in India by August 1st and stay for a five-month term (i.e. until just before Christmas)

2.  undergo, upon arrival, two weeks extensive training with our academic writing faculty as well as a cultural orientation programme

3.  teach two sections of our undergraduate Foundation Course in academic writing, Introduction to Critical Thinking (each section meeting twice a week for a total of three hours per week), from September 1st to December 5th with student exams and final papers completed by December 19th

4.  be paid a stipend of $5,000 per class which will cover the costs of travel from the US to Delhi and back. The total stipend will be $10000 for the fall semester. We can provide assistance with finding subsidized housing in the Delhi/NCR region.

We are keen to recruit dynamic teachers who are trained in academic writing pedagogy and have already acquired some experience in the classroom.  A freshly minted PhD with teaching experience in a university writing programme or writing in the disciplines course would be a good fit for one of these positions. Some prior experience teaching writing at the undergraduate level is a must.

Prior experience of India is not required, but an openness to other cultures and the challenges of global spoken and written communication is a must.  Ashoka University undergraduates are students of superior academic ability and have been educated in English-medium schools, but English is a second and even third language for many of them.
