Post Doc, First Year Writing Program - Barnard College

Barnard College invites applications for a three-year, non-renewable position as Post Doc in the First-Year Writing (FYW) Program. FYW teaches the skills of academic writing and critical inquiry to all Barnard students and prepares them for the rigors of Barnard’s liberal arts education in all disciplines. The Post Doc will teach a 2/2 course load in FYW and will work with the Director of FYW to develop new syllabi for the program. Additionally, the Post Doc will lead workshops in innovative writing pedagogy for FYW instructors and will give a series of talks and workshops for Barnard and Columbia faculty and students on writing both in and across the disciplines. The Post Doc will actively pursue research in writing pedagogy and writing programs, with an emphasis on writing across the disciplines and teaching writing to students from a variety of educational backgrounds.

Applicants must have earned their Ph.D. after May 1, 2014 or must plan to do so by August 15, 2016. Successful applicants will have a background in writing pedagogy and demonstrated excellence in teaching writing at the college level, preferably to students from a range of educational backgrounds (including non-native speakers), and will be engaged in pedagogy scholarship with plans to continue in the field.
