Writing Director - Lecturer with Security of Employment (LSOE) - Humanities Core Program

Humanities Core, a yearlong program that introduces freshmen to the humanities and that teaches writing, invites applicants to apply for the Writing Director, a position with the academic title of Lecturer with Security of Employment. The Writing Director oversees the creation, the implementation, and the assessment of Humanities Core’s writing curriculum; directs a peer tutoring program; conducts weekly pedagogy sessions; and writes or edits many of the teaching aids used throughout the year. This is a full-time fiscal year appointment effective January 1, 2017.

Requirements: Ph.D. in a humanities discipline. Applicants should also have taught in a yearlong interdisciplinary writing program and trained others in writing pedagogy. Preference will be given to candidates who have previously directed a writing program and who have taught writing for at least five years in university settings.

The Lecturer with Security of Employment series requires, in addition to excellent teaching and service, that the candidate makes outstanding and recognized contributions to the development of his or her specific discipline and/or of pedagogy. LSOEs are members of the University of California Academic Senate and are eligible for UCI’s attractive faculty housing, medical, and retirement programs. It is expected that they will continue to develop as professionals in their respective fields by attending relevant professional meetings, reviewing programs, and collaborating with those outside the university who share their pedagogical concerns.
