Coordinator of Teaching with Writing Program

This full-time twelve-month position coordinates the University of Minnesota’s well-established Teaching with Writing program. Teaching with Writing (the University of Minnesota’s writing across the curriculum program) is located within the University’s Center for Writing. Responsible for offering instructional support to faculty members, adjunct instructors, and teaching assistants so that they will be able to integrate effective writing instruction into the courses they teach, this position mixes behind-the-scenes administration and resource development with face-to-face instruction of groups and individuals.

Administer and Coordinate Teaching with Writing program, which supports all University instructors on issues related to effective writing pedagogy (40%) Program campus-wide and customized series of workshops, seminars, and panel discussions for University instructors across the disciplines who teach with writing; Communicate regularly with Director of Writing Across the Curriculum to align Teaching with Writing program with Writing-Enriched Curriculum project (a three-year, grant-funded, writing-in-the-disciplines project); Assess program and manage programming data

Serve as the Teaching with Writing programs lead instructor and instructional consultant (40%)
Conduct campus-wide and customized workshops, discussions, and teaching consultations for University instructors who teach with writing; Collaborate with Faculty Writing Consultants and other instructors from across the disciplines to support University instructors with adequate information and consultation; Write, edit, and publish instructional support materials in both print and online formats; Research and read relevant writing-across-the-curriculum literature.

Serve as a member of Center for Writings executive core staff (10%)
Participate in relevant University committees, boards, programs and councils (5%)
Participate in relevant national and regional discussions and conferences (5%)

Required: M.A., M.F.A., M.A.T., or M.Ed. degree; Knowledge of theory and research related to composition theory, writing pedagogy, writing across the curriculum (WAC), or writing in the disciplines (WID); Experience with writing program administration or writing-across-the-curriculum programming; Significant (minimum three years) classroom experience (as sole or primary instructor) teaching with writing at the university level; Minimum two years programming and facilitating workshops and discussions related to teaching; Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written; Ability to teach and work collaboratively with diverse populations; Experience writing, editing, and producing print/web materials for university audience; Proficiency with MS Office Suite.

Desired: Ph.D. in Composition/Rhetoric or a related field; Experience leading or coordinating aspects of writing program administration or writing-across-the-curriculum programming; Minimum four years classroom experience (as sole or primary instructor) teaching with writing at the university level; Experience with computer-based instructional strategies; Significant experience using web technology and databases.
