We seek a new faculty Director to lead the Duke University Writing Program (UWP)—an independent, multidisciplinary program known for its innovative approach to teaching writing as a form of critical inquiry. The UWP Director supervises three faculty Program Directors (of First-Year Writing, Writing in the Disciplines, and the Writing Studio) and three staff employees; hires, trains, and supervises a writing faculty of over 25 postdoctoral fellows; leads the annual Postdoctoral Seminar in Teaching Writing for new writing faculty; oversees the budget and fundraising; and serves as an advocate for writing in the university community. The Director reports to the Dean of Trinity College.
We seek a distinguished teacher and scholar, committed to the development of undergraduate teachers, who will build on the current successes of the UWP. The Director teaches two courses per year in addition to adminstrative duties. Appointment is at the level of Associate or Full Professor of the Practice of Writing in the UWP. This is a regular-rank, non-tenure-stream, renewable faculty position. Salary and benefits are competitive.
