Popular Culture's Place in the English Composition Classroom: An Academic Exchange Quarterly Special Section

Focus: Often, the discussion regarding the use of popular culture in the classroom focuses on content-area courses. There are, however, myriad ways in which pop culture can be used to enhance students’ critical thinking and writing abilities within the structure of English composition courses. This issue of AEQ seeks submissions that discuss both the theoretical and practical uses of popular culture in the composition classroom, as well as ways in which pop culture can be integrated into composition assignment design.

Instructor or Assistant Professor of English

Millikin University invites applications for a full-time faculty position as Instructor or tenure-track Assistant Professor of English to teach news and feature writing, along with first-year writing courses. Teaching responsibilities would include: (1) teaching the journalism track in the writing major, (2) advising Millikin's award-winning student newspaper, (3) teaching first-year writing courses (9 hours per semester plus advising). Master's Degree required for Instructor candidates; Ph.D. or ABD required for Assistant Professor candidates.

WRITING INSTRUCTOR: ENGLISH

Pending availability of funding, the Department of English is seeking one non-tenure track instructor for a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for up to 6 years. Teaching responsibilities: nine 4-credit hour courses in the writing program (primarily first-year composition) over three quarters. Salary: competitive.
