Coming Together: WPA Conference, Breakfast, and Shared Framework for Success in Postsecondary Writing

As WPAs, we know how important it is to build connections with others in our programs, on our campuses, and with our colleagues. CWPA has four great opportunities to make new connections and reconnect with old friends coming up.

First, the WPA conference is a great opportunity to come together with colleagues from across the country to talk with and learn from each other about the many critical issues that affect us as program directors and instructors. Proposals are still being accepted for WPA 2011, so submit today!

Second, stop by the WPA booth at CCCC! This is a great opportunity to learn more about CWPA, get to know board and committee members, and be welcomed into a fantastic organization.

The WPA Breakfast at CCCC is another terrific opportunity to connect with friends new and old. A few seats are left for the Breakfast, so get your tickets soon!

Finally, CWPA's participation in and roll out of The Framework for Success in Postsecondary Writing represents an important effort by CWPA, NCTE, and the National Writing Project to strengthen connections among our organizations and try to connect with discussions about writing and writers occuring in many contexts. Copies of the Framework are available from the link above; we will also have copies of the document and of strategies for using the Framework in your local context available at the WPA booth at CCCC. We'd love to talk with you!

CWPA 2010 - Let us help with your new year's resolutions!

It’s the new year and the new term, a time when some take the opportunity to make and act on resolutions. It might be, in fact, that CWPA can help with some of our members’ resolutions with some fabulous opportunities. Maybe you’ve decided to:

Meet a writing instructor, program director, writing center director, or other writing professional near-ish who you’ve been meaning to chat with, but haven’t yet done.

CWPA (Network) Breakfast at CCCC - A New Twist on an Old Favorite

Perhaps, as the semester winds down, you are already thinking about next term, about spring, about CCCC and the WPA breakfast at CCCC. This year’s event, which is open for registration, brings a new twist. As part of CWPA’s efforts to facilitate connections and conversation, we’re introducing themed tables at the breakfast. "What themes," you ask? You tell us!

Of course, the WPA Breakfast still has the things you love: a ritualistic kick off to the CCCC! A chance to see old friends and make new ones! Mid-Term Report

Just as the mid-point of the semester seems like a good time to look back on the work we do with students, it seems like a useful moment to reflect on CWPA’s work this Fall 2009 term. There are a lot of opportunities for CWPA members (and friends) to be involved with the organization – and maybe a list of some of the initiatives will inspire others to join!

Based on input that we collected through WPA Directions at the 2009 summer conference, we’ve started or will start several new initiatives. These include:
