Responding to the moment: Writing Program Curriculum Redesign

Abstract

What should be the work of a writing program curriculum? How do we consider equity-minded and inclusive pedagogies? How do we prepare students to navigate disinformation and use new technologies ethically? The facilitators of this workshop continue to contemplate these questions as they either create and implement a new vertical writing curriculum or revise an established first-year writing curriculum. The facilitators will share their recent experiences creating new curriculum that incorporated project-based learning and Super Courses. This workshop will walk participants through the questions the facilitators asked themselves and the processes they took part in as they created new curriculum with the goal of creating an innovative, equity-centered and inclusive writing curriculum. The session will focus on key steps in the curriculum design process including establishing learning outcomes, choosing materials, crafting assignments, providing feedback, grading, and designing an assessment plan.
