Final Note of the Year: Save the Dates for Spring

Dear members,

Thank you for a productive fall in CWPA! We hosted four professional development events and two cultural assessment conversations. We published our conference CFP for summer 2025 and reconnected with WPA-GO. We have some exciting news about the Summer Workshop (see #4 below!). It’s been a good fall.

The purpose of this note is to look toward spring/summer 2025 and share four opportunities to get involved. I hope you will make space on your calendar for CWPA in the new year!

  1. Cultural Assessment Conversations

This conversational series has been unpacking the Cultural Assessment Report. We have been using this space to reflect together on CWPA’s whitely history and how we can use to the recommendations from the Cultural Assessment Report to move toward becoming a more inclusive, welcoming organization. Key dates in the spring include 1/10 (we will discuss theme 3 from the report), 3/14 (theme 4), a roundtable at CCCC in Baltimore, and 5/9 (bringing it all together). All sessions are led by current Executive Board members. If you care about doing the restorative work of reflecting on our history and planning our future, I encourage you to attend and participate! 1. Virtual Workshops in Spring

CWPA will host four 90-minute workshops in the spring: one in February on balancing values and priorities as a WPA (co-facilitated by Hadi Banat, Talisha Haltiwanger Morrison, and Allegra Smith); one in March on generative AI in the writing classroom (co-facilitated by Mary Lourdes Silva and Jeanne Law); one in April on teaching that draws from Hassel and Philip’s award-winning book Materiality and Writing Studies: Aligning Labor, Scholarship, and Teaching (co-facilitated by Holly Hassel and Cassandra Phillips); and one in May on mindfulness and administration (facilitated by Susan Miller Cochran). For more information and to register, click here.

  1. Summer Conference

As you might have seen, our summer online conference theme is “The Shifting Nature of WPA Work.” We’d love to have you present your wisdom and to learn alongside you at this 2-day summer event, which will take place July 10-11 online. Learn more and submit your proposals here (proposals due March 31).

  1. Summer Workshop

The summer workshop for new and continuing WPAs will take place at the University of Houston-Clearlake during the last two weeks of June (dates to come). Our co-facilitators are David Green and Michelle Bachelor Robinson. The cost of registration will be around $700. Registration will include two breakfasts, two lunches, one dinner, and all workshop activities, but it will not include housing or travel costs. This is a workshop you will not want to miss! Please save the dates and keep an eye open for more information in the new year.

Thanks for your engagement and support! And thanks to the many, many folks who are volunteering their time, talents, and expertise with CWPA, including our officers, our Executive Board members, our workshop facilitators, and our committee and task force volunteers. I appreciate you!

Have a wonderful winter break,
Kelly
