CWPA in January/February
A Monthly Update for Members
Dear Members,
Although there was no newsletter in January because of the holidays and beginning of the spring semester, let me assure you that we have been busy at CWPA. Let’s see what’s been going on here.
Topics in this newsletter
CWPA Welcomes New Treasurer
CWPA Summer Regional Events
CWPA Award Nomination/Submission Deadlines
CWPA Monthly Virtual Workshops
CWPA Welcomes Seahorn as New Treasurer
On February 1, Christal Seahorn became CWPA new Treasurer after having served on the Executive Board (EB) for seven months as an elected member. You can learn more about Christal and her new role at this news article.
I’d like to welcome Christal to that vital role at CWPA, and to thank former Treasurer Mary McCall for a job amazingly done.
CWPA Summer Regional Events
I’m pleased to share that we received seven proposals in response to the CWPA Summer 2024 Regional One-Day Events call that we launched in December. Proposals came from a wide range of institutions at four different regions in the US. After the summer programming ad-hoc committee reviews the proposals, I will announce all event details. Wait for the news soon and get ready to participate in a CWPA regional conference at a university near you.
CWPA Award Nomination/Submission Deadlines
All CWPA committees have been working hard on calls and other communication. Expect to hear from several committee chairs soon.
Meanwhile, here is a reminder of two committees’ calls:
CWPA Award for Outstanding Scholarship on Writing Program Administration
Deadline: February 29
Read the complete CFN HERE.
The 2024 CWPA Graduate Research Award Committee
Deadline: March 1
Read the complete CFP HERE.
Please share widely in your circles.
CWPA Monthly Virtual Workshops
We have a great lineup of virtual events this spring.
On February 23, Lauren Marshall Bowen and Matthew Davis will discuss getting tenure as WPA, and life after tenure.
In Marsh, Susan Lang will talk to us about DATA in writing program administration work.
In April, Christine Tulley will lead a Free Member-Only workshop on writing and publishing as WPA.
And we wrap our semester workshops with Part II of Susan Miller-Cochran and Cheri Lemieux Spiegel’s workshop on Mindful leadership in writing program administration. Remember that if you have registered for the December workshop, you will attend the May one for free. If you have missed the December one, register for the May workshop and you will receive a link to the video recording of Part I.
You can register for all workshops on our website.
There are other things happening at CWPA that I will share shortly.
I’m deeply grateful to Executive Board members, committee chairs, workshop facilitators, and our members at large for their ongoing substantial support for CWPA. The labor and dedication I get to witness constantly is equally heart-warming and gratifying. Continuing to do that work on a voluntary basis is NEVER easy or adequately recognized and appreciated. More reason to be thankful for all of you.
You can show your support by sharing this newsletter with others, encouraging colleagues to become members, and by contacting us with suggestions and feedback (councilofwpa@gmail.com).
Have a great week.
Sincerely,
Lilian
