Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon is recruiting one full-time, contracted Composition and Rhetoric Specialist (faculty) to begin work Fall 2014 (subject to budget). We are looking for an individual with a strong commitment to a career teaching in the community college.
THE WRITING/COMPOSITION PROGRAM
The Writing/Composition Program is a vital part of the English Department with a focus on teaching writing as a rhetorical process as well as a productive mode of thinking and being in the world. Writing at Lane encompasses a range of courses, including basic writing, introductory college composition, professional/technical writing, and creative writing. Our program emphasizes student success through critically reflective teaching that is supported by a community of shared theory and practice. That community is enriched by a diverse array of faculty expertise and strengthened by dynamic projects such as ongoing faculty professional development, program-wide assessment, and initiatives that promote campus developments in writing across the curriculum.
Education: 1. Master’s Degree in Composition and Rhetoric, Composition Studies, or English (PHD preferred)
2. Minimum of four (4) graduate courses in Composition and Rhetoric (16 quarter credits or 12 semester credits)
*Qualifying coursework might include:
WAC/WID, Critical Pedagogy, Writing Studies, Writing in New Media, Digital Rhetorics, ESL/EFL, or Cultural/Minority Rhetorics (e.g., African American Rhetorics, Latina/o Rhetorics, Native American Rhetorics, Asian American Rhetorics).
*Qualifying courses do not include Teaching Assistant Training or Practicums.
3. Two graduate courses in Literature
Experience: One (1) year recent college teaching experience, or equivalent, in composition/writing.
