The George Mason University Department of English seeks a tenure-track Assistant or Advanced Assistant Professor in Rhetoric/Composition to serve as the Director of Composition starting Fall 2016.
Qualifications: Applicants should have experience in administering a writing program along with research and teaching interests in writing program administration, faculty development, rhetorical theory, or composition theory. Experience working with multilingual writers, online writing courses, writing in the disciplines, and/or program assessment will be beneficial.
Required: Ph.D. in rhetoric, composition, or a related field; and Experience teaching college-level writing courses.
Responsibilities: The Director of Composition will oversee a required first-semester composition course along with a required junior-year composition course that emphasizes disciplinary awareness. Teaching load is 2:2; the incumbent receives a one course per year reduction for administrative work. Teaching opportunities may include undergraduate courses in composition, advanced composition, rhetoric, or upper-division nonfiction writing; as well as graduate courses in rhetoric, composition theory, and composition pedagogy.
The Department of English offers an undergraduate minor and concentration in rhetoric and writing; M.A. concentrations in the Teaching of Writing and Literature and Professional Writing and Rhetoric; and a new Ph.D. program in Writing and Rhetoric.
