The University Writing Program in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (http://www.umass.edu/writingprogram/) invites applications for the Director of the Writing Center and Western Massachusetts Writing Project at the rank of Lecturer.
This is a full-time academic-year (9-month) non-tenure track position with a start date of September 1, 2018. The position is renewable and requires a minimal summer commitment.
The Director has the unique opportunity to lead the outreach efforts of our nationally recognized writing program. The successful candidate will coordinate the efforts of a large writing center, with a staff of 50 tutors, and the Western Massachusetts Writing Project, one of the most active sites of the National Writing Project. Candidates are expected to remain current in teaching methods/pedagogy around writing centers and the role of writing across disciplines. Specialization in writing centers, writing across the curriculum, literacy studies, multicultural/multilingual writing, or assessment is preferred.
- Ph.D. in English or related field.
- Three years of experience in tutoring, and administrative experience of some kind.
- A strong record of academic, professional, and service accomplishments.
- Commitment to teaching and working with diverse populations.
- Experience directing a writing center and/or writing project site.
- PK-12 teaching experience, and/or grant writing experience.
