Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition
The University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Rhetoric and Composition in the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS). This is a full-time position with a 9-month service period. We seek an interdisciplinary, intellectually expansive, community-engaged Rhetoric and Composition scholar with a strong research agenda and demonstrated success or aptitude for developing and teaching a variety of writing courses to diverse student populations, including upper- and lower-division students.
The ideal candidate uses intersectional approaches to raise questions about privilege, power, and bias; explore multilingual literacies or translingualism; or engage critical race, gender, and disability theories. Interest in assessment, multiple classroom literacies, or program administration is welcome.
The portfolio includes teaching first-year courses as well as developing, aligning, and teaching existing lower-division courses and new upper division courses for the purpose of starting a new rhetoric and composition track for a thriving writing studies major. University of Washington Tacoma encourages faculty to mentor and collaborate with students for undergraduate research for conferences and publishing venues, develop international teaching and research collaborations through internally funded programs, and provide opportunities for leading study abroad courses. Candidates have the opportunity to contribute to a successful campus-wide faculty diversity institute. The position begins September 16, 2018, and at the time of appointment requires an earned Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) with a dissertation in Rhetoric and Composition. Publications in hand desired. Candidates in the final stages of their dissertation will be appointed on an acting basis.
